History of Object: Ancestral christening dress worn by consecutive members of the Deas family, early residents of Alameda. The Henry Deas residence, 1729 San Antonio Avenue, was erected in 1879 and is still standing (1989). Henry Deas, patriarch of the Alameda branch of the Deas family, first wore the dress at his christening in 1844, subsequently his children and grandchildren all wore the gown.
