History of Object:
Miscellaneous documents from / to the council and/or mayor of Alameda, started in 1912-1913 with later additions, found in the attic of City Hall during remodeling in the 1990s. Documents in this folder include: corrected budget for 1912-1913 (Item 2046); Reports from various Departments; insurance; General Election 1913 & Petitions for same (2009). Of special interest is the petition by Mrs. Eileen Allen to be added to the ballot for councilman-at-large; this is just 2 years after the Constitutional Amendment of 1911. The city clerk had initially refused, after having requested opinion of the City Attorney (2009-8) who decided it was pointless, since the requirement was having been an elector for 3 years, and thus she was not eligible; Mrs. Allen filed a lawsuit and won (2009-11 and California Superior Court decision numbered No. 37631), and her name was placed on the ballot. She did not win. Result of election: 2009-18 (Frank Otis Mayor; Fred J. Croll Auditor and Assessor. Geo. T. Morris Councilman at Large).
