No. 18.31.1 (A-C) Subject Category: Homes of Alameda Date or Period: Pre-1885 Object: Escutcheons, sliding door Description: (A) Oblong-shaped mortise sliding door escutcheon with matching elaborate cast brass with Eastlake-style motifs. The grip part of the escutcheon is indented and has large cut-outs for insertion of keys. Size: L-5 3/4 x W-2 in. (B) Escutcheon, key hole, cast brass in a medallion shape with an ornate decorative Eastlake-style. Size: L-2 1/2 x W-1 1/2 in. (C) A mortise with a sliding door lock. Size: L-7 1/2 x W-3 1/4 in. All of these items have two holes for attachment to a door surface. History of Object: This hardware came from a pocket door located at 1567 Pacifiic Avenue, an Italianate-style residence standing as early as 1885. An early owner, (1885-1896), was Herman Dreist.
