Description: Quilt with applique scenes on white cotton backing, each square is separated by red cotton fabric (with design of tiny white stars) which is also used as the quilts border. Reverse side of guilt has white squares (no applique) separated by red cotton material found on face of quilt. The quilt is completely sewn by hand, from applique to actual quilting. Size: 58x70 inches, individual squares - 11x12 inches. Some of the squares are signed by their creators (sewn signatures).
History of Object: Quilt entitled "Alameda Then and Now" was made by the students of Barbara Bucciarelli at Alameda Adult Education School, Winter Quarter, 1976, for the Alameda Celebration of the American Bicentennial, 1776-1976.
Attached to the bottom of the quilt are (3) silk ribbons: far left-gold print on pink silk states "5th Community Quilt Faire, Hayward, 1978, Participant." Size, 2x9 inches. middle-gold print on blue silk states "Honorable Mention, Alameda County Fair, 1776-1976-Bicentennial." Size, 9¼x2 inches. right-gold print on red silk states "United States of America, San Francisco Twin Bicentennial, 1776-1976, Dorcas Quilters. St. John's Presbyterian Church, Size, 8¼ x2 inches. far right-gold print on red silk states "Festival of Needlework, 1976"
