Tablet with ornamental painted cover of Sail boat and sea gull within a shell and the name Bertie Clark, written top of cover. The cover is in orange green cover.
Size: 5 3/4" by 8 3/4"
History of Object: The diary kept by Herbert D. Clark, May 25, to August 5th, 1888, when he was sent to sea at the age of twelve years old. The diary is hand written and there is a reference, dated June 9, 1888 where he goes searching for specimens of seaweed. He says it is quite different from the type found in Alameda. Mr. Clark's family had settled in Alameda in 1878.
