Description: A collection of different-sized tickets all stating 'Island Auto Movie' and 'Penny Market'. A: near-square tickets (2), printed black type on tan sturdy paper, No. 8760 and 8763; B: near-square tickets (2), printed red type on off-white paper, stating 6th Anniversary - Free Color TV', No. 9507 and 9508; C: rectangular ticket with same-size stub, stamped, 25C in green, rest text in black, No. 098341; D: as C, but No. 295376, and reverse is much lighter and smaller type; E: partial of two connected small tickets without stub, 25 c, No 297945 and 297946.
Sizes: various, largest L 3 1/4 x W 3 inches.
History of Object: Tickets for raffle drawings at the Sunday penny market at the Island Auto Movie drive-in theater, 791 Thau Way. The theater opened in June 29, 1950, and closed as a movie theater in 1991, when the screen was destroyed by a storm. The site continued as a swap meet until 1995, and was ultimately demolished in 1997. Housing now occupy the site.
Some of these tickets are fairly early, presumably the 6th anniversary tickets are from 1956.
