Description:
Chinese cabinet constructed of rosewood. The front of the cabinet is broken into several sections consisting of, 5 drawers (in various sizes), two cubicles, which are enclosed by pairs of sliding doors, a central cabinet with oblong doors (2) which open on pins, and an upper cubicle with single door (opened by applying slight pressure and lifting upward). The drawers & doors to the various cubicles are hand painted with wildlife scenes that are executed in gold leaf, carved ivory and mother-of-pearl. The pair of central oblong doors depict a scene of two children playing with an ivory ball, adjacent to a footbridge (in gold leaf). The upper portion and base of the cabinet are separated by an opening where decorative objects can be displayed. This area is accentuated by individual galleries of cut out rosewood. The sides and rear portion of the cabinet are also finished in rosewood, so the piece can be viewed from several perspectives.

Part of the trousseau of Emma Adell Mitchell, which was brought to Alameda in 1900, upon her marriage to Herbert D. Clark, a member of a pioneer family here.
