History of Object:
Documents found in the attic of City Hall. This folder holds correspondence of City Manager C. E. Hickok relating to garbage collection; 1921 letters describe the establishment of a temporary dump in the Slough near Mound and Pearl Street, necessary as a result of the collapse of the Bay Farm Island Bridge, which meant no garbage could be dumped on Bay Farm Island. Residents were not pleased. The 1924 correspondence describes the suspension of the 1923 contract for selling of Swill to the Contra Costa Hog Company, when that company’s hogs had to be destroyed after contracting hoof-and-mouth disease.
