Cover design signed by the artist "Laura E. Foster." Size: L-5 1/2 x W-8 1/4 inches. History of Object: Souvenir program for the grand opening of Linderman's Opera House (southwest corner of Central & Park Avenues), for Feb 12th, 1892. The play "A Night Off" was performed by local residents as a benefit for the ladies of the Alameda Flower Mission. The opera house was destroyed by fire in 1897. The cover was designed by the artist Laura E. Foster, daughter of Charles H. Foster, pioneer building of Alameda. Mr. Foster was the contractor in charge of the construction of the Alameda Free Library in 1902. Miss. Foster eventually went to New York where she became a well-known illustrator. She specialized in the depiction of cupids (her trade-mark), which can be noted on the cover of the Linderman Opera House program. Acquired from: Mrs. Dorothy Layton Date: 9-18-85
