Description: Recorder encased in imitation leather covered box, with handle grip on top for carrying. Upper of top of box has a hinged cover when opened reveals a turntable and two reproducing heads, one for recording the other for playing. There is a speaker’s mike for receiving messages that pulls forward on a hinge. On the back section of the box is a hinged door, when opened reveals the rear portion of the recorder and a plate inscribed "Sound Seriber, serial No. LBBWCC,MFD by the Soundscriber Corp., New Haven, Conn.
Size: 13½ inches long by 9 inches high, & 9 inches wide.
History of Object: Early recording device found while moving the contents of the Chamber of Commerce from their building in the 2400 block of Santa Clara Avenue to the basement of the Alameda City Hall. It is said to have been used by the Chamber of Commerce, which was founded in 1927.
