No. 17.37.2 Subject Category: Citizens of Alameda Date or Period: circa 1880's Object: Pastel sketch, framed Description: A pastel portrait under glass in an elaborate cast green frame with a gilt and gold leaf finish. The frame also includes an inner mat of a wine colored plush. Size: L-30” x W-25” History of Object: Elizabeth "Lizzie" Chipman, daughter of William W. Chipman, co-founder of the City of Alameda, and Caroline Dwinelle; it was her second marriage. The Chipmans had five children, three daughters and two sons. The portrait appears to have been copied from a small albumen print photo made by Charles Lainer, an Alameda resident with a studio in San Francisco. Acquired from: Shari Matson Date: 11/17/2017
