Accession No. 12.7.20 A-N Subject Category: City of Alameda Date or Period: 1930-1932 Object: File Folders Description: legal size manila file folders, some acid-free, some old with a stamped number on the tab, with documents, marked on verso with a number. Size: L 14 3/4” X W 9”. History of Object: Folders, found in the attic of City Hall, which pertain to petitions for street plan changes: A. (#267): 1930-1932: A.E.J. Duchesnay for a Marina and housing development at the extension of Park Avenue (see also 11.47.3A, 11.47.10, 11.62.10A and 12.5.4), and plans for a land swap which straightening out the section of Bay Island Ave (later Otis Drive) between Broadway and Park St. Includes proposal maps. Swap was realized; dredging was done, larger plan was not realized. B. (#276): proposed road, cutting diagonally through city blocks from the corner of Washington and High St. to the Bay Farm Island Bridge and Market Street. Includes a Blueprint Maps reflecting property ownership. Leon H. Ader, of Ader and Mathebat, was contracted, at a percentage of the purchase price, to obtain options for the land. Not realized. C. (no #) Magnus and Christine Hollested (Oakland) opening Clay and Calhoun between Broadway and Regent. Partially realized (Calhoun, not Clay). D. (#283); widening of Park Ave between Santa Clara and Central; includes pencil-drawn map. The City Manager advised against it, and Shaw & Lunt, 1436 Park St., protested also. Not realized. E. (#286); connecting Fernside and Encinal, acquiring property of E. K. Taylor, and negotiating with Southern Pacific Co. about improvements. Includes blueprint map. Realized. F. (#297): Walter H. Anderson - closing of Ferndale Court, Grand Oak Tract, on Pearl St., between Lincoln and Buena Vista. Realized. G. (#301): 1931 Neptune Beach (Strehlow) / Cottage Baths (Schmidt), requesting closure of sixth Street (later Webster) S from Central. denied. H. (#314): widening of Maitland and straightening north approach Bay Farm Island Bridge. Unknown, superseded by more recent bridge design; but appears approved. I. (#315): request to close end of Webster, by Tilden Lumber and Mill Co. who found their yard unreachable after building of the Posey Tube. Denied. J. # 234: 1928, Eagle Ave W of Webster; # 235, 1928, extending Portola W to Weber. # 237, 1928, pave E end of Encinal and S end of Fernside; # 240, 1929 council instructing City Attorney Locke to prepare an ordinance regulating playing of ball games in the streets. K. # 262: 1929: planned improvement of Beuena Vista Ave west of Webster. L. # 263: 1931: street improvements of Third Street, N. of Maple and N of Pacific. Includes petition with names of neighbors. M. #273, 1930, Bay Island Ave between Versailles and Mound; # 274, 1930, Sixth Street, north from Pacific; # 277, 1930, Bay Island Ave, between Pearl and Versailles; # 285, 1931, Clay, between Versailles and Pearl; # 290, 1931, Calhoun between Mound and Court.
