Object: Cup and saucer, cake plate
Description: A large size cup with a matching saucer and a luncheon (cake) plate. This set is hand painted on German and Bavarian porcelain. The decorative designs consist of hand painted purple pansies on a yellow background. Their rims are accentuated with gold. The cup's interior has an iridescent rinse and its exterior has the caption, "Merry Christmas to Laurene,” spelled incorrectly, the child's name was actually Maurine.

History of Object: A cup and saucer and luncheon plate that were painted by Alameda artist Thomas P. S. Jorgensen and was arranged by a person who was a friend of Maurine's father. Maurine was the daughter of Wiley and Clare Gardner, longtime residents of Alameda (since 1912). The donor, Maurine Middlecamp, recalls Jorgensen's studio being on the 2nd floor of a commercial building on Webster Street in Alameda. The lower floor is remembered being occupied by a feed and fuel business by a man with a surname sounding like "Campe".
