No. 11.36.7 Subject Category: City of Alameda Date or Period: 1911-1917 Object: Folder, file Description: Acid-free legal size manila folder, with documents, which are numbered on the back with a stamp or handwritten number, and a stamp ‘Filed’, with a date, and signed by “F. E. Browning”; or R. E. Bosshard, (in 1917) in some cases the stamp has additionally: “CITY CLERK OF ALAMEDA”. Numbers range from 1851 to 1900. Size: L 14 1/2” X W 9” History of Object Miscellaneous documents from / to the council and/or mayor of Alameda, started during tenure of City Clerk F.E. Browning (with later additions), found in the attic of City Hall during remodeling in the 1990s. Documents in this folder relate to: semi-annual reports of several departments; maintenance of sidewalks and streets; haggling over price with the Southern Pacific railroad; transfers from and to General Fund; Salaries, appointments; Item 1852 - widening of (the sidewalk) of Santa Clara at Webster from 1911 on, with one owner (Ms. DeChesne) refusing cooperation, resolved when she sold the property (to C.C. Stevenson); Item 1865 - lease and ultimately purchase of play lot for Porter school; Item 1868 - Superintendent of schools, Will C. Wood, plans to implement a Kindergarten class (1911); Item 1873 - Alexander Mackie (handwritten on stationery paper) - former member of Board of Trustees - agreeing to inspect accounts; Item 1884 - Union Water Company offer; Item 1885 - implementation of milk bottle caps; Item 1892 has an addendum with addresses of Mayor and councilmembers (1912), signed by John Conrad, Chief of Police; Item 1893 - Receipt of F. Binder, Alameda Pharmacy, for medicines used to treat a child, injured by a bonfire left unattended by park maintenance staff near a play structure; Item 1897 - Board of Health Secretary Arthur Hieronymous replacing Eugene C.
