Interior-white kid with two pockets with flaps with metal fasteners. Body of purse and handle continues. Leather clasp with metal fastener. Size: 6x6 3/4 inches. History of Object: Hand tooled leather purse made by Lura Hinsdale Smith, 1855 to 1912. Ms. Smith was an accomplished china painter, practicing her art in Alameda in the 1890's and early 1900's. She also painted in water color and oils. Beside painting and selling her wares she also taught china painting. Ms. Elizabeth Thomas, Mrs. Tilden, Mrs. Lum (the elder), Anna Spreckels were some of her students. Acquired from: Mrs. Alec (Yvonne) Low
