Description: A hardbound book with a black cover, the title and author printed in gold colored type, “A Tramp Through the Bret Harte Country" and "Thomas Dykes Beasley.” The book has 23 scenic photographic illustrations and is about 115 pages in length. There is a written inscription on a cover page signed by the author, "Alameda, May 5, 1914". It was published by Paul Elder and Company, San Francisco. The author's obituary and photograph are attached to an end page.

History of Object: A travel book about "Bret Harte Country" in Northern California, written by Thomas Dykes Beasley (1850-1926) who resided at 1423 Central Avenue in Alameda. Beasley was born in England and according to his obituary, was an “expert draughtsman of maps and designs.”
