Description:
Acid free legal size file folder, with documents, some of which have stamped numbers on the back, others a handwritten number, all have additionally been stamped ‘Filed’, with a date, and signed by “F. E. Browning”; in some cases the stamp has additionally: “CITY CLERK OF ALAMEDA”. Numbers range from 1551 to 1599.

History of Object:
Miscellaneous documents from / to the council and/or mayor of Alameda, started during tenure of City Clerk F.E. Browning (with later additions), found in the attic of City Hall during remodeling in the 1990s. Documents in this folder relate to: East-Bay cities desire to benefit from San Francisco’s Hetch-Hetchy Reservoir (1574, 1584, 1589); contract with Great Western Power Company (1569); Fireworks prohibition (1573); a settlement over the electrocution of Mrs. Davoust (1564), a windmill ordinance (1571); petition to allow the Board of Electricity to trim trees if needed (1577); decision to build a new elementary school in place of Haight School (1589); concerns by the Child’s Welfare League of Alameda County over moving pictures; and appointments and resignations of personnel.
