History of Object: a certificate awarded to Charles W. Martin (1894-1977), Alameda resident at 1430 Mound Street from 1936 until his death, for his service in the army in 1918, given during the presidency of Jimmy Carter (president 1977-1981). This certificate was part of a display at the Naval Air station, prepared by the donor in 2017, but dismantled in 2025. The certificate may have been originally part of the estate of Nancy Martin (daughter of C.W. Martin).
Martin was stationed in WWI in France from August 1918 to September 1919, in charge of a POW camp, and attained the rank of First Lieutenant, in the American Expeditionary Force, and was honored with this certificate around the time or after his death in 1977.
