Description: Embossed circular metal emblem with bold stamped heading "U.S. Post Office" & the number “7”. The “7” signifies the route number. Stamped on the reverse side of the emblem is the manufacturer's name "N. C. Walter & Son, New York."
History of Object: Emblem which was attached to the cap, part of the mail carrier’s uniform, Alameda Post Office. This particular emblem belonged to Hal Chrisman, father of the donor. Mr. Chrisman, born Texas 1879, arrived in California in the early 1900's, and came to Alameda from San Francisco following the earthquake & fire of 1906. The family originally lived at 424 Santa Clara Avenue, where the donor was born (1908). Mr. Chrisman retired from the Alameda Post Office in 1922.
