No. 16.36.1 A through F Subject Category: World War I Date or Period: 1918-1919 Object: Medals, award Description: Medals in the form of a medallion suspended from a red, white and blue colored silk ribbon attached to a bar pin. The motif on the bar pin is in embossed lettering reading, "Honored Son" and includes decorative designs of an outstretched eagle's wings above the heads of two California state bears. The emblem has the inscription, "City of Alameda, California, 1919" and the city logo of a standing woman in a field of industrial symbols. Each medal is engraved with the names Irvine & Jackens, 1027 Market St., San Francisco. Size: L-1 1/2” History of Object: Medal A: on reverse it is inscribed, "Presented to World War Hero #928, Harry Moore." Medal B: has the same inscription as above medal, except it is numbered #217 and reads, "C. F. Crittenden, 1st Lt. M.C." Medal C: #881 has no recipient's name. Medal D: numbered #1010, the recipient is, "Lewis Reginald Ells, Aviation" a gold star is suspended over the bar pin. Medal E: same general inscription as the above described medals, but has the name, "G. F. Ilderto, USN, #694." Medal F: has no name, but is numbered #568. All of these medals were originally presented at a ceremony held in Lincoln Park, Alameda. Acquired from: Unknown, but acquired prior to 1971 and never cataloged. Date: 05/21/2016
