DESCRIPTION: Natural finish mahogany frame which encloses two printed charters with gold seals dated 1949. Inscribed in elaborate script, Color scheme of both documents is blue print with a light blue lace effect border.
Size: 18" wide x 38 1/2" long.
HISTORY OF OBJECT: Charter of the Veterans of World War I, U.S.A., California dated the 11th of October, 1957 and containing the names of the members of Alameda Barracks No. 635. This organization was dissolved (mid 1970's).

Note: The Veterans of World War I of the USA, Inc. was organized in 1948. In 1989, when it hosted the Veteran's Day remembrance at Arlington National Cemetery, there were some 100,000 WWI veterans remaining, whose average age was 94. The organization's executive office at Arlington, VA closed c. 2008, and the US Dept. of Veteran's Affairs acts as the administrator of this organization.
The Alameda group, Barracks #635, ceased to exist in the 1970's.
