Description

Accession No. 11.53.15 Subject Category: City of Alameda Date or Period: Prior to 1923 Object: Map Description: 6 copies of an undated, black and white map of Alameda Main Island, with caption: Map of City of Alameda, issued by City Engineer C. E. Hickok. Legend has two items: ‘Present Hard Surface Pavement’ and ‘Proposed Hard Surface Pavement’. Maps have been folded twice at odd angles, as a stack. Size: L 9 1/2” X W 20” History of Object: maps found in attic of City Hall prior to renovations in the 1990s, placed in a new folder after acquisition by the museum. Careless style of folding suggests these were superfluous copies. C. E. Hickok later became City Manager, at least in 1923, so this map must be from before that year. Map shows which streets in Alameda needed improvement. Acquired from: City of Alameda Date Cataloged: 9/24/11
