Description: A-Two-piece satin gown with a pattern of horizontal stripes on a pale lavender background and a horizontal trim of roses with green leaves. The bodice and shirt are lined. The buttons have been removed from the bodice.

History of Object: The dress was owned by Alameda resident Mrs. Henry F. Strachan, who came to Alameda in 1873 with her husband who was appointed general manager of the Borax operation. They eventually resided in a Queen Anne-style residence at 2701 Santa Clara Ave., which is still extant.
