Description: Ornate cardboard box with lid containing colored lithograph of Victorian ladies in bathing attire. The box originally contained men’s handkerchiefs, and has a paper label on the front edge "Select Quality Gentlemens French Linen HKf-1 dox., No. 59". On the interior of box lid is written in pencil "Hattie McDonell".
Size: 5x8¼ inches, 1¼ inches thick.
History of Object: Box which was used to house the valentines of Eddie, James, and John McDonell, and was owned by their sister, Hattie McDonell. The four were raised on Bay Farm Island, and were the nephews and niece of Mr. & Mrs. P. A. McDonell, pioneers of the community.
