Description:
Blue binding, gold incised duplication of penman ship, "Schuyler Colfax" and on the spine it says "Life and Services of Schuyler Colfax". The interior has steel engraving of Mr. Colfax. It is also inscribed with the name "R. Frank Clark, November 14, 1868" and has an orange impressed wax seal on the front page with an eagle motif that says "House of Representatives, U.S."

History of Object: This is a biography of Schuyler Colfax, written by Edward W. Martin, and published in San Francisco, in 1868. Mr. Colfax served as vice president under U. Grant. On page 222 there is a reference to an excursion made to Alameda and reference to its railroad and president, Mr. Cohen, Mr. Colfax was related to the Clark family through marriage.
