1/17/2021 MvL: current sign (note misspelling of Mayor): GIDEON AUGHINBAUGH Co-founder of the present-day CITY OF ALAMEDA A letter addressed to the Board of Trustees who governed the Town of Alameda prior to the inception of the Mayoral and City Council municipal form of administration. In this letter Mr. Aughinbaugh asks permission to remove trees blocking Third Avenue (now known as Sixth Street). This correspondence is undated; however, we know it was written before 1890 and is signed by Gideon Aughinbaugh, Co-purchaser and co-founder (with W.W. Chipman) of the present-day City of Alameda.
