ACC. NO. 84.8.1 SUBJECT CATEGORY: Houses, Victorian DATE OR PERIOD: 1878 OBJECT: Window, art glass DESCRIPTION: Art glass window in an oval solid oak sash. Central oblong panel subject is a portrait of a girl holding a fan (in stained glass). Surrounding oblong panel is hand painted, stained glass clusters of fruit, leaves and scrolls. Background of girl is in vivid blue; aqua, amber, ruby and pale amethyst are other colors in composition. Size: 38" long by 28" wide. HISTORY OF OBJECT: Art glass window removed from 1433 Morton Street, Alameda. House demolished in 1971 or 1972. This Italianate style residence was erected in 1878 for H. V. Herbert, wealthy lawyer for the Southern Pacific. The house in its day was one of the showplaces of Alameda. Window was purchased by donor along with others from the home.
