Acc. No. 07.19.1 Subject Category: Dentists Date or Period: c. 1900 Object: Dental vulcanizer Description: Circular shaped iron base which appears to have been originally nickel-plated. This base supports two objects, one being a gauge with engraved numerals, the other being an unidentified object. There is an attached thermometer with a removable brass cover. A detached wrench with a Japanned finish is also included. Size: H-9 1/2 inches. History of Object: From original attached annotation: "Old fashioned steam vulcanizer used in curing and hardening of rubber artificial teeth, about 1900." The donor, Dr. N. D. McKean, is listed in the 1912 Alameda City Directory. Although donated to the AHM in the 1950's it was never properly cataloged. Acquired from: H. Dunwoodie McKean Date: 03/17/07
