No. 21.53.3 Subject Category: Citizens of Alameda - White family Date or Period: c. 1920s Object: Christening Dress Description: A white lawn high-waisted christening dress with central panel constructed by hand from ribbons of machine lace with white embroidery, stitched together and placed diagonally, ending in 5 flounces of scalloped lace of the same pattern. Hem is the same scalloped lace, under pin-tuck layers. Short sleeves are made of the same lace. Closed in back at the waist with a string tie, and at the neck with a hook-and-eye closure. History of Object: Christening dress of (made by?) 'Grandma White', mother of Guy Arnott White, who married Freda Dunlop, whose family came to Alameda in 1897. Acquired from: The White family.
