History of Object: Membership card for a branch-centric or company skating club of D. Gray, of the Alameda Office. Dorothy May Gray Nelson (d. 1997) moved, at age 19, to Alameda from Rhode Island with her widowed mother, Addie Iris (nee Brightman) who was a nurse (d. Alameda, 1957). Dorothy and colleague Marjorie Morrison worked as operators at Pacific Bell. Addie Iris and Dorothy first rented at 1830 Santa Clara, later Dorothy lived at 2152 San Jose. Although the club’s name suggests ice skating, the members also participated in roller skating events. W.A Roberts issued the passes and may have been the club’s membership coordinator.
