H. S.-1897." The tray, decorated with purple colored grapes and signed "L. H. Smith," has a scalloped edge & border accentuated in green & gold. Size: L-12 1/2 x W-17 inches. History of Object: Porcelain tray hand painted by the Alameda artist Lura H. Smith (born Aug. 6, 1855, died Sept. 8, 1912), aunt of the late Mrs. Alec Low. The tray was part of the collection of Anna Spreckels, also a china painter, who was a personal friend (possible teacher or student) of Lura H. Smith. Acquired from: Marie Wilson Date: 9-17-1994
