Acc. No. 17.2.1 Subject Category: Household Date or Period: circa 1930's Object: Salt and pepper shakers Description: Hand painted shakers made of porcelain by an unknown maker. The painting is a motif of a handled basket containing roses on a luster background, they are trimmed in a silver color paint. Their bases have cork stoppers and one is signed "Jorgensen" (see paragraph below). Size: Each shaker: 5 3/4” History of Object: The artist who hand painted these shakers was Thomas Peter Sophus Jorgensen (1879-1943), a native of Denmark known for his china painting. He migrated to the United States and eventually settled in Oakland in 1906 to establish his porcelain painting business; in 1943 he died in Alameda. Acquired from: Jim Herndon, Date: 01/01/2017
