Description: Pastel painting of a 6-column Southern Colonial Mansion, framed by a turquoise sky and tall trees, in the foreground a lawn, bordered by flowering bushes, and a pond with lily-pads. The lights behind the windows of the house are lit. Signed 'Siegfried', lower right, in white.
Frame is a straight gold concave painted 'frame-in-frame', 2 1/2".
Paper backing has a sticky label from the Alameda Historical Society, 'Registered' 7/7/83, Number 38, and an envelope taped to it with an exhibit list, with number 38 underlined, '35X26 Artist's "Dream House", M/M Thomas Robertson'.
Size: frame: 31"X41".
History of Object:
Painting by Edwin Siegfried (1889-1955). It was bought, unframed, at the time of Siegfried's death. Siegfried called it 'The House of Gracious Living', and there were first floor plans to go with the painting. The painting was framed at Saake's.
This painting featured in the 1983 Siegfried exhibit, and was #38 on the list, owned by M/M Thomas Robertson, 1555 Central Ave. Mrs. Robertson had obtained the painting from Mrs. Cecilia Thomas. The painting hung at 2910 Bayview Dr. in 1983, at the home of Mrs. Robertson's son.
