No. 11.66.2 Subject Category: City of Alameda Date or Period: 1922-1934 Object: Accordion File folder Description: Light brown legal size expanding manila file folder, with tan label stamped with ‘24’, and documents, many of which are marked on reverse with ‘24’ and a sequence number. Folder is torn on the sides. Size folder: L 14 3/4" X W 9" X 5” thick (maximum size). History of Object: Documents relating to the Fire Department. Documents include notices, specs and bids and related correspondence, for various cars and trucks (1922, 1924, 1926); a tractor aerial ladder truck (1929), and a pumping engine (1930-1933); building of a new Bungalow Fire House designed by Carl Werner on Grand and Pacific (1924) and a gasoline storage tank for same, wrecking of the old firehouse at Court and Jackson and building Bungalow Fire House #5 in its place, designed by Carl Werner (1926); sale of the Fire-House lot at Webster and Pacific (1929), and building a new Bungalow Fire House, designed by Carl Werner on Pacific Ave (1928-1929; 24-52 includes a bid by Strehlow & Petersen on Neptune Beach stationery). Also documents relating to Chief Steinmetz attending conferences, thank-you’s (24-65, Warren S. Palmer, 921 Grand Street; 24-48, Burdette A. Palmer); settlement of injury claim, and a few personnel issues (age limit 35; injury settlement). Various local businesses are represented. Also includes Fire Prevention report from 1931, and decision for an ordinance that vehicular traffic stops upon sounding of fire sirens (24-6). 24-17 has Carl Werner’s approval signature for the Pacific/Grand Fire House (1924); 24-19 evaluation of the Owl Cleaning & Dying Co.; 24-34 and 35 pertain to fire boats. 24-39 includes a postal card of Alameda Upholstering Co., 2309 Central. 24-43 bids from Chapin Motor Sales, 2424 Santa Clara.
