Documents found in the attic of City Hall, prior to renovations. These documents were originally in a folder (discarded in 2011) with a green label on the tab stating: "Lease - Tide Lands - Oyster Beds - Ira Coe 1935”.
Documents in this folder pertain to
a. Lease of tidelands by Oakland resident Ira Judson Coe, to dredge for oysters. Includes a map (dating c. 1930 - Gibbons Drive is laid out but not named, has Benton Field, and S.F. Bay Airport, but not yet Otis Dr.). Started in 1933 under City Manager Ralph M. Bryant, City Attorney Albert George, and completed in 1935.
b. Transfer of lease from Ira Judson Coe to the Pacific Portland Cement Company and Pacific and California Chemical Company and its successor Westvaco Chlorine Products Corporation, and to the subsequent transfer of the rights of the former company to the latter, in 1937.
