Description:
Hand painted porcelain shaving mug, inscribed "J. McDonell” (misspelled), and motif of resting sheep, trees, flowers, etc., accentuated with gold. Unmarked porcelain, signed on base "R. Samisch, 209 Sutter St., S.F."
Size: H-4 inches, opening diameter-3 1/4 inches.
History of Object: Shaving mug originally owned by John McDonell, uncle of the donor, who ran a butcher shop in the 1500 block of Park Street. He was a member of a pioneer Alameda family.
