Central Hose Company, No. 3. The shield is held in place by a gilt eagle's head. Size: Brim 15"x12" Height: 10". History of Object: Firemans Helmet from the Alameda Fire Department, Central Hose Company, No. 3. Worn by Mr. Lovegrove. He was a volunteer fireman in 1888. This helmet was found in the basement of his old home on Santa Clara Ave. between Morton and Sherman Street. He was a glazier by profession. The Central Hose Co. was finally moved from this location to Sherman Street near Central Ave. Found and donated to the Alameda Historical Society by Mr. Edward F. Heritage, April 29, 1952. Mr. Heritage was also a volunteer fireman. Acquired from: Mr. Edward F. Heritage Date: April 29, 1952
