No. 19.9.3 (A, B) Subject Category: World War I Date or Period: c. 1917-1918 Object: Uniform (military) Description: WWI U.S. Navy work uniform of heavy white cotton, consisting of jacket (A) and pants (B). Jacket has stamped name of the sailor ('Wolslegel E') at the hem and neck, and a sailor's collar, a breast pocket, a cross-loop for a scarf, and no buttons. The pants are flaring, and have sides that are tightened to size with twill tape, a front flap closure with bone buttons, and two front pockets. Size is identified on the waist band: 9x26. There are various rust marks and unidentifiable small stains. Size: 9x26 History of Object: A U.S. Navy work uniform belonging to Ervin Wolslegel, a longtime resident of Alameda. He was born in 1890 in Buckley, WA. He resided in Alameda from 1940 until his death in 1974. He was an employee of the U.S. Naval Air Station in Alameda.
