Size: L 25 3/4 x W 19 1/4 inches History of Object: Aerial photograph showing the College of Alameda Campus, current address 555 Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway, as it looked around 2000. On the photo one can also see the Oakland-Alameda Estuary, and the entry portals to the Posey Tube and to the Webster Street Tube, as well as apparent industrial activity closer to the Estuary, and even the tower on top of Chevys Fresh Mex restaurant (founded in 1981; Alameda location was closed around August 2006. Building was since demolished to make place for senior living facilities). The college was opened in 1970, part of the Peralta Community College District, one of four colleges in the district, which was established in 1964. Voters of Alameda, Albany, Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland and Piedmont voted in 1963 to join with Oakland to establish the junior college district. At present, aviation maintenance buildings are located at Oakland International Airport, and additional buildings are at 860 Atlantic Ave. This photo was given to the donor, instructor at the College of Alameda, by its previous owner, Freddy Colon, whose name is written on the edge of the backing paper. Alfredo Colon retired after 39 years as a Utility Engineer in the General Services department on July 20, 2023. Acquired from: Larry Silva Donation Date: 11/20/2025 Catalog Date: 12/8/2025
