Accession No. 12.6.26 Subject Category: Alameda During World War 2 Date or Period: 1945 Object: Aerial Photograph Description: Black and white aerial photograph of Alameda, printed on heavy stock paper and dated 2/8/45. Mt. Diablo and parts of Contra Costa County can be seen in the distance. A legend containing 34 items has been added to the photo in white lettering. Numbered areas on the photo, corresponding to the legend, have been colored red, orange, blue, green and yellow. A note that is part of the legend says, "Areas 19 to 34 occupied by war industry, war housing & naval and military forces from Aug. 1941 to Feb. 1945. Size: L 30” x W 18.75” History of Object: 31 of the 34 call outs in the legend are in Alameda. This photo provides excellent documentation of wartime Alameda.
