Description: Statuette of gypsum of a man, kneeling on the right leg, holding a container on a stick. The figure is hand-painted and glazed, with black hair, beard, and moustache, wearing a yellow robe, purple cloak, pink turban with gold top, and pink shoes. The neckline and container are painted gold. The base is painted dark moss-green. Underside is stamped: 'GERMANY' in black.
Size: H 5 1/8 x L 1 7/8 x W 2 inches.
History of Object: Figurine of a Wise Man, according to German tradition, one representing middle-age, Asia, and bringing Frankinsense. The figure appears to be representing an Indian or Arabian. Part of a Manger or Nativity Scene of the Martin Family, who came to Alameda in the early 1900s.
