Acc. No. 93.43.1 A - B - C Subject Category: Household Date or Period: C - 1920 Object: Piano & Bench. Description: (A) Upright style player piano with mahogany case and matching oblong bench (B). The Dark mahogany case has upper section with sliding doors which expose mechanism and roller. Keyboard covered by hinged panel. Inter panel with gold transfer caption stating "M. Franck and Son, Alameda, Cal". Code 90241 - no manufacture stated, however, interior of Piano has a duplicate caption embossed in iron "M. Franck and Son" Size: L - 52 x D - 28 x W - 63 inches. (B) Matching mahogany oblong shaped bench has a hinged lid which has a revolving adjustable imitation leather (brown colored) position elevator. Interior of bench serves as storage for music sheets. Size: H - 20 1/2 x L - 36 x W - 15 inches. (C) Box containing piano rolls. Perforated rolls are in original boxes with paper label stating Manufacture and song title. Size: Each box is L - 12 1/2 x W - 2 1/4 inches. History of Object: Piano purchased at "M. Franck and Sons" Music store, Park St. The firm was in business approx: 60 years. They sold sheet music, victrolas, records, and pianos. They had connections with manufactures and were able to have their business name applied to the product they sold, namely pianos and victrolas.
