Acc. No. 15.120.5 A, B Subject Category: Furniture Date or period: circa 1880-1890 Object: Chairs, reception (or parlor) Description: A pair of chairs that appear to have dark stained walnut frames. The finish seems to be original. The seats are covered in the original silk plush upholstery with a vertical blue and gold colored weave. The chair design imitates 18th Century English Sheraton or Hepplewhite designs. The convex back has a series of nine delicate splats. The front frames, including leg supports, have been turned on a router. The upper stiles are topped with acorn-style finials (two) that are attached to the crest rail. Size: H-34” x W-17” x D-16 1/2” (See illustrations on verso.) History of Object: Reception (or parlor) chairs from the John Ward residence at 1539 Versailles Avenue that was constructed in 1878.
