No. 21.72.1 Subject Category: Toys; Citizens of Alameda Date or Period: c. 1900s Object: Doll Carriage Description: Hooded Wooden Doll carriage, with red paint accented with yellow stenciling, lathe-turned handle, seat upholstered in black (now grey) leather, and canopy covered with iron supports, black leather cover, and golden fringe fastened with small nails. Bottom of seating section has a paper with image of a rug pattern. The back wheels are larger than the front wheels, and all are covered with a metal rim. The seat is attached to the undercarriage with metal shock breakers. Attempts were made after donation to repair the fringe, which was only partially successful. Size: approx. L 36" x W 15" x H (handle) 25 1/2" History of Object: Doll carriage which was owned by Dorothy Alice Hagen (1910-2019), the grandmother of the donor, who had amassed an extensive collection of dolls and miniatures. The family moved to Alameda in the 1920s. Dorothy lived next door to Phyllis Diller in the 1950s. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
