Object: Newel post cap
Description: A square-shaped redwood newel post cap. It has multiple layers of dark brown colored varnish constructed in two sections. The top has a slight pyramidal shape.
Size: L-7 x W-7 x H-5.5 inches.
History of Object: A newel post cap removed by a longtime family friend, Leo Butler, a school custodian. When the old Haight School was demolished c. 1911 Mr. Butler retrieved the newel post cap from the rubble and gave it eventually to the father of the donor.
