No. 83.21.1 Subject Category: Household Furniture; Schools, Alameda High Date or period: Circa 1840’s Object: Table, gaming Description: Pedestal base gaming table, Empire Style, made of mahogany. Oblong table top (collapsible) rests on a box-like structure which is supported by a pedestal base, which terminates into 4 hand-carved claw feet. The table skirt has an apron of stylized dentil work on three sides. The side that faces the wall are plain. When not in use the table would be displayed by placing it against a wall, with leaf up or down. Size: oblong table top, 35x17 inches, top when unfolded, 34½x35 inches, height of table with leaf down, 31 inches. History of Object: Table purchased in the Orient by Arthur F. Agard (Alameda High School teacher for many years), on a sabbatical leave he took in the 1920's. The table has been given to the museum in the memory of Dorothy Lane (mother of the donor), who had inherited it following Mr. Agard's death. Acquired from: Dixie Hunt Date: June 2, 1983
