Acc. No. 17.10.1 Subject Category: Furniture Date or Period: circa 1890's Object: Chair, folding Description: A folding chair manufactured of unknown wood that has a dark brown stain. The crest has a gallery of nine lathe-turned decorative spools. The base of the chair has three lathe-turned horizontal supports. The back and seat are covered by a multi-colored floral tapestry with a gimp in a matching color; the upholstery is not original. Size: Seat: H-32 1/2” x D-14 x 13 1/2” History of Object: This folding chair style is sometimes known as a "carpet chair" because they were often upholstered with carpeting. This chair originally belonged to Frederick and Olive Toye. Mr. Toye was a conductor for the South Pacific, and later, Southern Pacific Railroad.
