Many have a label inside specifying a donor. Many had a loose scrap of paper (now discarded) with handwritten ‘scanned’. Sizes: approx. L 23” x W 14 1/2”, thickness varying from 1 3/4” to 3 1/4”. History of Objects: Bound Editions of the Alameda Times-Star. The paper was first published in 1909 and absorbed the Alameda Daily Argus in 1913. It absorbed the Alameda Journal (1935-1937) 1937/1938, and by 1938 also claimed rights to the names The Alameda Encinal (1896-1904), and The Alameda Review (1931-?). In 1986 it was bought by Bay Area News Group-East Bay (BANG-EB), a subsidiary of MediaNews Group. From then on, the same information was parsed as in other East Bay newspapers, with only the first and last page relating to Alameda. It finally ceased to exist as a separate newspaper 2011. For selective copies of these later editions see under 2024.35.4. Date of donation is unknown, at least before 2019. Some in this range had been donated and cataloged separately (see 2004.15). The inside labels indicate a number of these books were donated by the Alameda Free Library, perhaps after they were scanned for microfiche. The ‘donors’ mentioned on the labels had donated funds for the binding of the books. Donor: various / Alameda Free Library Donation date: unknown, or various; Catalog Date: 4/19/2024
