Description: Photographic portrait, hand colored, in circular shaped ornate cast gesso frame (off-white finish accentuated with gilt).
History of Object: Photographic portrait of Mary Frances Thornton, born San Francisco Sept. 29, 1870, and brought to Alameda by her parents in 1875. The photo was taken upon her graduation from Alameda High School. The portrait originally hung in the Thornton parlor, 1479 High St. Mary was the daughter of Abel Thornton, pioneer farner of the East End. Thornton owned & cultivated land now known as Liberty Avenue. Miss. Thornton, mother of the donors, married their father, Fred Linderman, in 1895.
