No. 21. 110.1 Subject Category: Citizens of Alameda Date or Period: 1867 Object: Medal Description: iron Maltese cross medal with engraved decorative design along the edges, and engraved text: 'Prize Medal of the U.G. - won by - E. Lulere. May 27th 1867'. Size: circa 3 x 3 inches. History of Object: Medal, donated on February 11 1959, and accepted by then curator Harry D. Smith of the Historical Society. The U.G. on the medal may have been from the Union Guard. E. Lulere was a misspelling for E. - Eugene Nicholas - Leclerc. The LeClere or LeClerc family came to Alameda soon after the founding; Arcene (or Arsene) Leclerc (1816-1888) was a painter, living on Pacific Ave. in 1874, and in 1875 he was joined by Eugene N (b. 1848 - d. c 1925). The family built homes on the lot stretching from Pacific Ave (2226 Pacific) to Railroad Ave (2221 / 2223 Lincoln Ave.), now the location of the Alameda Christian School. Daughter Alice was connected with the California Training Home for Girls. The donor was a granddaughter. Acquired from: Ida M.
